Richard Newman and Mark Ferrara Discuss the Erie Canal

This is an edited transcription of an interview between RIT historian Richard Newman and Professor Mark Ferrara of SUNY Oneonta, whose book The Raging Erie: Life and Labor Along the Erie Canal reexamines the many social and cultural impacts of the Erie Canal in the nineteenth century. The transcription retains the main features of the conversation.
